The Department of Chemistry, Nagarjuna University was the erstwhile Department of Chemistry of Andhra University Post Graduate Centre established in 1967. It was headed by Prof. L. R.Row (1967-68), Prof. V. Panduranga Rao (1968-80), Prof. K.V. Jagannadha Rao (1980-89), Prof. N.S. Prakasa Rao (1989-91 & 1995-98), Prof. B. Sivarama Sarma (2005-06), Prof. P.V.V.Satyanarayana (1991-1993, 1998-2000 & 2006-2008), Prof. B. Syama Sundar (1993-95, 2000-03 & 2008-10) Prof. B. Kesava Rao (2003-05 & 2010-12), Prof. B. Hari Babu (2012-14), Prof. D. Ramachandran (2014-2016), Prof. M. Subba Rao (2016-2018), Dr. Anitha C Kumar(2018-20), Dr. R. Ramesh Raju (2020-2022),Prof. B. Hari Babu (2022-23), and Prof. M. Achievements
The Department has published about 1200 research articles in various National and International journals of repute. As many as 250 Research students received Ph.D., Degrees and about 300 research students received M.Phil. Degrees. Besides, the faculty members have presented several papers in various seminars and conferences. Moreover, 5 patents got in this department. The Department has conducted several seminars, workshops and conferences. Notable among them is the “39th Annual convention of Chemists” Dec.23rd to 26th 2002. The department also conducted one “ International Conference on Recent Advances in Chemical.

The major research field is organic synthesis and development biologically activite compounds. Isolation and phytochemical analysis of Natural products. Metal based Nanoparticles, composites, and their corresponding applications. Method development, Validation of Various Drugs by HPLC, RP-HPLC, UPLC, GCMS. Study of Molecular interactions in binary mixture of various ionic liquids with different organic solvents.
