The Department of Mathematics was one of the few departments initiated at the time of establishment of the postgraduate center at Guntur by the Andhra University in 1967. The Department specializes in the fields of Algebra, Analysis, Fuzzy Algebra, Graph Theory, Ring Theory, Fluid Dynamics, Near-ring Theory, Gamma Near-ring Theory, Special Functions, and Non-Linear Programming. The thrust areas of the department include Near-rings, Functional Analysis, Graph Theory, Special Functions and Universal Algebra. The Department has produced more than 90 Ph.D, and more than 100 M.Phils have already been awarded. The number of research papers published in an International/ National journals by the Teachers of the Department is 850. As an evidence of the work done by the department, many books were authored/edited by the teachers of our Department were published by famous publishers like Printice Hall of India, New Delhi, VDM Verlag , Germany and CRC Press (Taylor and Francis, England). The Department is promoting Research activities for development of Mathematics by way of organizing National/International Seminars with experts from all over the world. An International seminar on “Near Rings†in 1984 and few National Seminars in 1989, 1996, 2006, 2014, 2016, 2019, 2023 (sponsored by the U.G.C) and one day National Webinar in 2021 were organized by the Department successfully and the proceedings of the seminars resulted of many publications.. Several Students and Scholars of the Department established their credentials as good researchers in reputed institutions are placed in such as I.I.T. Delhi, Central University of Hyderabad, Manipal University Manipal, Manipal University Jaipur, JNTU Hyderabad, K.L. University, University of Samarra, Iraq, University of Technology, Baghdad, Iraq and University of People, USA.
