The Department was established in 1967 with Zoology. At beginning, the department was well known for its taxonomic and limnological studies by the eminent Professors. It was recognized nationally and internationally after their contributions. More than 150 new species, few genera and families were the contributions of the department. Later, due to rapid expansion of Aquaculture in Andhra Pradesh, the department expanded to fulfill the needs of fish farmers, department of Aquaculture was started in 1987. The department of Zoology and Aquaculture organized several national and international seminars and also funded by UGC SAP DRS and FIST. The research in the department mainly focusing on Immunology, Aquatic toxicology, Biodiversity, Ethnobiology and Physiology, Limnology, Aquaculture and Fisheries Science, Environmental biology. The department has awarded 171 Ph.D’s so far and published more than 230 papers in National and International Journals from 2017 to till date. The department offer M.Sc. course for 154 students. The students of Zoology and Aquaculture were absorbed in regional and MNCs immediately after completion of the course. Yelamachi Radha Krishna Endowment lecture was observed in the honor of Late. Prof. Radha Krishna, founder of the department in Acharya Nagarjuna University.
